Career Consultant/Job Developer Job Description
The St. Louis Arc has an immediate need in our Supported Employment Program for a full-time Career Consultant. This position is responsible for assessing vocational interests, knowledge, skills and abilities and developing competitive employment opportunities for individuals who have developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include scheduling and implementing assessment site exploration; guidance and assistance with job searches and job application processes; and on-going case management for individuals who are seeking competitive employment in the greater St. Louis region.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Employment Services, the Career Consultant is responsible for providing assessment opportunities, assistance with job searches and applications, and on-going case management for individuals with developmental disabilities who are seeking employment.

Adheres to Agency policies and procedures; acts as a role model within and outside the Agency; demonstrates good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly and professionally with all individuals; demonstrates flexibility and efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize workload; consistently and regularly reports to work on time prepared to perform duties. This position requires flexibility in staffing. Hours will be scheduled as determined by the needs of the individuals who are supported.
•Assess referred individuals to identify their skills, abilities, and interests as they relate to the current job market;
•Target specific support needs, which will increase the individual’s overall success in obtaining and maintaining employment in an area of their choice;
•Act independently to contact community businesses to promote services and to seek placement for employees;
•Prepare and submit paperwork according to established timeframes and guidelines;
•Utilize judgment and discretion to match job openings with employee’s skill level;
•Provide comprehensive job development services utilizing information from the assessment process to provide an appropriate job match;
•Serve as the department’s representative to individual, family, support staff, employer, and referral source as the individual progresses through the job coaching and retention phases of their program;
•The Career Consultant will attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Coordinator for individual case reviews and overall progress of services.

Physical Requirements: This position requires seeing, hearing, standing, walking, bending, the use of stairs, lifting, carrying supplies, communicating professionally both verbally and in written form, the ability to make sound immediate decisions in order to ensure the safety of the people we support. Regular attendance is mandatory. Required to transport individuals in their own vehicle.
Experience and Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field and 2-3 years related experience preferred. First Aid/CPR certification, good organizational, communication, public relations and problem solving skills required. Missouri Class E driver’s license (or other state equivalent) and vehicle insurance required and must be able to receive (or has received) Hepatitis A vaccinations.
